Holiday Group/Family Build: Easy Rope Wreath

11/24/2023 05:00 PM - 08:00 PM ET

Description

This year the Hudson River Martitime Museum's Wooden Boat School hosts a series of holiday-themed classes where you can create and build unique, handcrafted toys for your family and friends as well as learn some basic craft and/or woodworking skills along the way. Join us for this group/family build style class where you will braid rope to fashion a wreath that can be decorated to your taste. Your handmade holiday wreath will be made of natural jute fibers and makes a lovely gift, or just a unique decoration to stand out in your home. Students will learn to do a complex braid that is based in the nautical tradition, join the ends of the rope as invisibly as possible, and attach the decorations of your choice.

This is a short three-hour, basic/beginner level class, and the only skill you should bring to class is patience. The only materials you need to bring to class are the decorations of your choice. If you have either strong thread or a large needle, and you prefer to use your own, you may bring these. Otherwise, the instructor will have plenty of both.
