Chair Repair: Fiber Rush Seat Weaving

12/12/2026 09:00 AM - 12/13/2026 05:00 PM ET

Description

Got an old chair or stool that's in good shape but has a broken seat? In this class you can bring it back to useful life by learning the basic weaving pattern called fiber rush weave. You'll make a sturdy, long-lasting—and comfortable!—seat of rush weave using an all natural, paper-based fibre rush. Your instructor Janice will show you how to make tight, square corners, and perfect a figure eight weaving pattern.

You'll leave not only with a beautiful new hand-woven seat that will last for generations, but also knowing how to repair chairs in the future, or the rest of a set of chairs.

Instructor: Janice has sewn since childhood and started out teaching macrame, then caning until she went into upholstery. Eventually she combined the two (caning and upholstery) as a business. Janice has done wicker and natural rush. While she retired in 2015, Janice still enjoys teaching and demonstrating these techniques.
