US Sailing Basic Keelboat, 4 - 7 pm, May 21 - July 9, 2021

US Sailing Basic Keelboat is a 21-hour class taught by US Sailing-Certified instructors and includes many topics contained within six categories: sailing concepts, sailing preparation, first sail, after the first sail, sailing environment, and safety and emergencies.The course will use the "Basic Keelboat" textbook published by the United States Sailing Association, which is included with tuition. The class will be taught primarily on the water aboard the Riverport Sailing and Rowing School's keel boats. Students will practice their on the water skills to gain confidence in operating their vessels.

Covid-safer precautions such as meeting outdoors in small groups, wearing masks, and frequent equipment cleaning will be followed as long as these practices are needed.

At the end of the course, qualified students will have the option of taking the test to qualify for the US Sailing Basic Keelboat certification. ​

This course has a 4:1 student to instructor ratio.

Dates:  Friday afternoons, May 21 - July 9, 4 - 7 pm.  No Class July 2. (July 16 make-up class will be added if a makeup class needed) 
Registration:  General Public Tuition: $500; Individual HRMM Member Tuition: $475; Household HRMM Member Tuition: $450. ( Includes required US Sailing Materials Fee of $50 for textbook, testing materials, and one-year US Sailing Membership)

Cancellation policy. Full refunds will be offered for cancellations that occur 30 days or more before a program's registration deadline (if no deadline, the first day of the program). Cancellations between 30 and 7 days will be offered a 50% refund or credit toward another class. Cancellations after the registration deadline or within 7 days of the first day of class (whichever comes first) will not be refunded.

Weather Cancellation: Generally, the Sailing School does not cancel classes. We sail in light rain and a variety of wind and weather conditions. We do stay ashore if conditions are dangerous, i.e. squall or thunder and lightning. In the event we cannot sail, we will present relevant topics and activities on land until the weather conditions improve. If Covid-19 prevents us from meeting indoors, we might need to reschedule a class. In that case, the make-up class will be July 16.
