Sailboat Ownership is an online, interactive four-hour class (two sessions) on Zoom for prospective sailboat owners and newer sailboat owners. 6:00 - 8:00 pm, March 1 and March 8, 2021 .
Topics to be covered include: types of sailboats, with review of pros and cons for each to help participants determine which type of boat may work for them; evaluating used sailboats; costs of sailboat ownership after the purchase price; skills needed for safe sailboat ownership; basics of sailboat maintenance; and resources for newer sailors and boat owners. The course is designed for newer sailors who are considering buying a boat and those who have purchased a boat in the past few months or years.
Focus will be on Hudson River sailing, but information will be relevant for sailors in other venues as well. $36 / $40 for the two classes.
Instructor: Jody Sterling, racing skipper, experienced on many types of small sailboats; cruising sailor with experience as captain aboard 40 foot keelboats; owner of a 1977 C & C 26 keelboat; board member of the Kingston Sailing Club and director of The Sailing School at the Hudson River Maritime Museum, English professor emeritus at Dutchess Community College. Credentials: Captain’s License (25 Ton Masters), US Sailing Basic Keelboat Instructor, US Sailing Small Boat Level One Instructor.
