REACH/Stem is a series of classes which includes 20 hours of instruction, and will use the US Sailing REACH/Stem Curriculum to teach Science, Technology, Engineering and Math concepts in the real world of sailing. Each class will be open to 16 Students and will be broken into two groups of eight.   On a typical class day, one group of eight will be led by a US Sailing Certified STEM instructor to learn STEM concepts and do land-based experiments and hands-on learning activities for half the time; the other group of students will sail with US Sailing Certified Small Boat Instructors on our fleet of Keel and centerboard boats for half the time. Then the groups will switch, so everyone will experience on-the-water and land-based instruction during most class dates.

REACH/STEM classes are open to Middle School age students, ages 10-14. Scholarships are available, and we welcome students from underserved communities to join us.  Both new sailors and more experienced students are welcome. Classes will be customized to reach students at different levels.  Classes will meet during each scheduled period, rain or shine. If weather is inclement, all students will learn together on shore, and we will make up missed sailing time during a later class in the same series, if possible.

COVID PRECAUTIONS
Safety of our students, staff, and volunteers is our top priority. As the date of a class approaches, we will evaluate guidance and restrictions and reach out to our students if there is anything that will affect their experience. We list current COVID guidance and restrictions on the Sailing School's homepage at www.hrmm.org/sailing-school.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Full refunds will be offered for cancellations that occur 30 days or more before a program's registration deadline (if no deadline, the first day of the program). Cancellations between 30 and 7 days will be offered a 50% refund or credit toward another class. Cancellations after the registration deadline or within 7 days of the first day of class (whichever comes first) will not be refunded.

WEATHER CONDITIONS
Our youth sailing program runs every day, regardless of the weather. We sail in light rain and a variety of wind conditions. If weather is dangerous, we will stay ashore and do chalk talks,  drills, learning games, etc. If Covid-19 prevents us meeting from indoors, and in the unlikely event we have seriously inclement weather, we will postpone for a day or half day and schedule a make-up.
