Description

Course: Adult Sailing Series - Class 3
Dates:  Tuesdays and Thursdays, 4:30 - 7:30 pm, August 15, 17, 22, and 24,  2023
Instructor: TBA
Class Size: 8
Prerequisites: None
Registration Deadline: August 7,  2023

This four-session class is designed for adult students (18 and older) who are either new to sailing or who have some experience but would like to get out on the water, practice their skills and learn more about sailing. US Sailing-certified instructors will teach or review the basics of sailing on board a stable 24 or 25 foot keelboat.  Participants will get to practice various crew and skipper skills and will participate in sailing the boat. There may be an opportunity to sail on smaller centerboard boats for one or two classes if some participants are athletic and agile and wish to do so. People may wish to enroll in multiple sessions of this class.

We wish to accomodate everyone, but participants need to be able to walk unassisted down a wobbly dock, lift their legs two feet high to step over lifelines when boarding boats, and be able to lift 25 pounds.

If you are unsure whether you can handle these physical requirements, please reach out to our Sailing Program Director at jsterling@hrmm.org to discuss

This course has a 4:1 student to instructor ratio.

COVID PRECAUTIONS
Safety of our students, staff, and volunteers is our top priority. As the date of a class approaches, we will evaluate guidance and restrictions and reach out to our students if there is anything that will affect their experience. We list current COVID guidance and restrictions on the Sailing School's homepage at www.hrmm.org/sailing-school.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
We wish to accommodate everyone, but participants need to be physically able to participate in our sailing classes. Students will need to walk unassisted down a wobbly dock, lift their legs two feet high to step over lifelines when boarding boats, and be able to lift 25 pounds unassisted. Sailing is a sport and requires some agility and quick reflexes. If you are unsure whether you can handle these physical requirements, please reach out to our Sailing Program Director at jsterling@hrmm.org to discuss.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Full refunds will be offered for cancellations that occur 30 days or more before a program's registration deadline (if no deadline, the first day of the program). Cancellations between 30 and 7 days will be offered a 50% refund or credit toward another class. Cancellations after the registration deadline or within 7 days of the first day of class (whichever comes first) will not be refunded.

WEATHER CONDITIONS
Generally, the Sailing School does not cancel classes. We sail in light rain and a variety of wind and weather conditions. We do stay ashore if conditions are dangerous, i.e. squall or thunder and lightning. In the event we cannot sail, we will present relevant topics and activities on land until the weather conditions improve.
