Youth Woodworking 1: Bird House & Tool Box, Summer 2023

07/10/2023 10:00 AM - 07/14/2023 02:00 PM ET

The Youth Woodworking class series is designed to introduce youths ages 12 - 16 to the basics of woodworking and carpentry. In each 4 hour class, Master Shipwright and woodworker Wayne Ford will teach the fundamentals of shop safety, measuring, layout, joinery, and the use and care of basic hand woodworking tools and some power tools. At the end of the week, students get to take home a finished project that they made themselves. Class groups are limited to 8 participants maximum to make sure everyone receives individual attention and hands-on experience.

Week 1: Build a Bird House & Tool Box
July 10 - 14

Week 2: Build a Stool & Bandsaw Spoon
July 24 - 28

Week 3: Build a Bandsaw Box & Do Nothing Machine
August 7 - 11

Week 4: Build a Four Corner Tray
August 21 - 25

Students register separately for each 1 week session, and can register for one or more sessions. While the series is designed to build skills over the course of four weeks, and we recommend they take the classes sequentially, it is not required. Whether it's for one or four weeks, all students will have a rewarding experience that builds the confidence and pride in workmanship that can come from woodworking.
