Boatbuilding Class: Carolina Skiff
Description
Come join us for this hands-on boatbuilding coursewhere students work as a team building a Carolina skiff from start to finish. This is a unique opportunity to work with a master woodworker and shipwright, Wayne Ford, whose experience includes participating in the restoration of the sloop Woody Guthrie and the sloop Clearwater. Wayne will lead this course over three full days, teaching students how to work together to successfully construct a small boat.
The boat you will build is a Carolina skiff and it has an ideal structure for the beginning boatbuilder. Its sturdy transom is designed for an outboard motor. Length: 12' / Beam (width at widest point): 4'6" / Height: 1'7" / Draft (depth below the water): 5" / Weight: 540 lb.
Students will have the opportunity to purchase the boat when the class is completed. The cost will be approximately $800-1000. Please note that this boat, because of its length and weight, usually requires a trailer to transport.
