Couples Craft: Turk's Head Bracelet

07/30/2024 06:00 PM - 08:00 PM ET

Description

For this edition of our group/family build series of classes, join veteran sailor Dan Nelson to make a Turk's Head bracelet. Each ticket admits two people, and you will each learn how to tie this traditional decorative knotted bracelet around your partner's wrist. This versatile but simple knot can be tied with just a few or many strands, depending on the desired width. No prior knot-tying knowledge is required and beginners are welcome. The twine you will use is your choice of either all-natural 100% jute or black synthetic seine twine.

In the photograph at the bottom of the page, you can see two Turk's Heads tied around the sloop Clearwater's original tiller, which is carved in the shape of an arm and a fist. This piece is in the collection of the Hudson River Maritime Museum and currently on display in the exhibition hall.
