How To: Fiber Rush Weaving

12/21/2024 12:00 PM - 04:00 PM ET

Description

In this class you will learn the basic weaving pattern called fiber rush weave. You'll make a sturdy, long-lasting seat of rush weave using an all natural, paper-based fibre rush. Students will learn to make tight, square corners, and perfect a figure eight weaving pattern. You'll leave with a beautiful hand-woven stool that will last for generations.

NOTE: you will need to bring the stool. This class is designed as a follow-up to the Build A Stool class on Nov. 1-2, so students can finish the stool they built. Alternately, you can either bring a stool that needs a new seat, or bring a stool-only kit that you have purchased. (Email the Wooden Boat School Manager at dnelson@hrmm.org for a kit recommendation.)

Instructor: Janice has sewn since childhood and started out teaching macrame, then caning until she went into upholstery. Eventually she combined the two (caning and upholstery) as a business. Janice has done wicker and natural rush. While she retired in 2015, Janice still enjoys teaching and demonstrating these techniques.
