How To: Splint Weaving

05/31/2025 10:00 AM - 04:00 PM ET

Description

In this class you will learn the basic weaving patterns that are applicable to Shaker tape, ash splint, vinyl splint and reed chairs and stools. Using either a stool or chair that needs a new seat or a pre-assembled footstool as a base, you'll weave the seat with all natural fiber splint material. You'll leave class with a beautiful hand-woven footstool or reseated chair.

NOTE: Class tuition includes the splint material but does NOT include a stool or chair. You can either bring a stool or chair that needs a new seat, or you can purchase an assembled stool  (L=14", W=10", H=9") from us for an additional $30. To do this, please select the "Add Stool" option under "Event Session" during checkout.

Instructor: Janice has sewn since childhood and started out teaching macrame, then caning until she went into upholstery. Eventually she combined the two (caning and upholstery) as a business. Janice has done wicker and natural rush. While she retired in 2015, Janice still enjoys teaching and demonstrating these techniques.
